This project assessed the existing Ride in Kane program and recommended areas of improvement. Program performance and financial conditions were examined. Obstacles to the Broadway corridor becoming a vibrant transit corridor were addressed in order to create a transit friendly environment that includes improved transit infrastructure, safety and beautification elements.
Current Activities
The study was completed and adopted by the Village Board in October 2015. In 2016 the Village was awarded Federal and RTA funding to contruct pedestrian access improvements along the corridor as recommended in the plan. The RTA chose Blue Island as part of the 2013 Community Planning Program to work with ULI to assemble a developer discussion panel to provide input, guidance and advice to the City as they work to attract TOD investment on a City-owned parcel adjacent to the 119th Street Metra station.
Current Activities
This panel convened in August 2013 and a summary of this discussion can be found in the Study Documents. Description
This project developed land use recommendations to support the CTA's planned bus rapid transit (BRT) service along the Western / Ashland corridors. The work led to the identification of land use policy changes that support transit-oriented development as well as design standards to improve the experience around potential station sites, with a focus on providing pedestrian access and increasing ridership.
The project assigned development typologies to all 77 Metra stations within the City of Chicago. These typologies provide a guide for elected officials and developers to identify opportunities for appropriate TOD development in the station areas, maximize access to transit, build ridership and support the surrounding community. This plan complements the Transit Friendly Development Guide completed by the City and the CTA in 2009, which created typologies for all CTA rail stations.
Current Activities
The final report was adopted by the Chicago Plan Commission in October 2014. The final report and other project documents can be found at: www.chicagometratypologies.com.
